At least a dozen new trains, primarily aimed at long-distance migrants, are likely to be flagged off before August 15, across India, as part of Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The railways ministry is working out details of creating “paths” to run unreserved general class only trains between various pairs of origin and destination stations which have a huge unmet demand for confirmed tickets.
The new rains are expected to connect big and small cities in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, West Bengal, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Delhi, and other locations, sources said. Zonal railways are creating paths for these trains which are going to be permanent fixtures in the time table. Two kinds of compositions are being contemplated; trains with unreserved general class seating and trains with a mix of general class seating and non-AC sleeper class.
“We have carried out a study to see which routes have perennial demands, especially from migrant labourers, and others who travel to and from big cities for work. A lot of demand for these classes remains unmet,” a senior Railway ministry official said. The railway ministry is sifting through demand data on routes over the past one year to determine the new trains. Most Read 1 Gadar 2 box office collection day 4: Sunny Deol film records biggest Monday collections of all time, nets a total of Rs 173 cr 2 Bigg Boss OTT 2 Finale Live Updates: Elvish Yadav wins Salman Khan’s show, Abhishek Malhan shares message from hospital 3 Happy Independence Day 2023: Wishes Images, Whatsapp Messages, Status, Quotes, and Photos 4 OMG 2 box office collection day 4: Pankaj Tripathi-Akshay Kumar film delivers better Monday than opening Friday, earns Rs 55.1 cr 5 Jailer box office collection Day 5: Rajinikanth film set to cross Rs 350-crore mark worldwide on Independence Day
